The 5 Information Product Creation Mistakes I Made As an Internet Marketing Newbie That You MUST Avoid

As an internet marketing newbie I found that creating information products was an easy thing for me to do. I loved writing so I knew writing it would be easy. What I found was putting together an information product that makes you money and has the potential to turn viral takes more than just writing.

After looking back at what I could have done differently I realized that there were 5 internet marketing newbie mistakes I made whilst creating free viral information products that you can avoid.

So let’s get started shall we. First of all don’t do this…

Internet Marketing Newbie Mistake # 1: Creating information products without links to a product/website

It was one of my earlier mistakes. I created free viral information products but didn’t include an affiliate product that had the potential to make me money. At the very least you should include your bio that links to your website(s) and or product(s). An even better approach is to promote a product that will help with what you have just talked about.

Your free information product will be out on the internet for years to come and you want to make sure you get the best out of it so if you don’t have your own products then include links to affiliate products.

Internet Marketing Newbie Mistake # 2: Including links I had no control over.

Always make sure you use a redirect link that directs the potential customer from the link in your information product to the actual website promoting the product.
Re-direct links are easy to control from your own web server. Using a redirect link means you redirect visitors from your link to your assigned affiliate link. This is important so you can CHANGE the link anytime you want to in the future.

If you stick to using your designated affiliate link and then stop using the product or the company your links become unusable and eventually obsolete. Do you really want free viral information products out there on the net with dead links? With a redirect link you can very easily adjust the target page and send the traffic to a different service, or web page because you have full control and can change the link from your site. So, never include a link to a product that you have no control over. Always use redirect links.

Internet Marketing Newbie Mistake # 3 : Using specific information that may eventually be out of date.

Remember you are sending out free viral information products that will be around the internet for a long time (hopefully) so adding a link to buy within a few weeks or because you are having a sale is a big mistake. If you send out a free viral information product that says “buy for the next 2 weeks for only $9.97″ in 2005 and someone reads that in 2008 you will open yourself up to being accused of deception or worse.
This is a common internet marketing mistake made by newbies when they start distributing their free viral information products.

Internet Marketing Newbie Mistake # 4: Including Personal Details In A Free Viral Information Product

I-CANN Spam laws dictate that you must have your contact details on your website, but avoid including personal information like your cell phone number in your free viral information products. Again things change and you don’t want old information being passed around. You also don’t want to be receiving phone calls at 3am your time because someone else in another country has dis-regarded time zones! So never put anything into your free viral information product that you don’t want the world to know and use.

Internet Marketing Newbie Mistake # 5: Not Checking links, spelling and grammar in my free viral information product

It is important you check your information product for grammatical errors and typing mistakes, but just as important is making sure that the links inside your product go to the right place, and that they are all working. Imagine sending out a viral information product only to discover 3 months later that one of the website links are incorrect or has a comma (,com) instead of a full stop (.com)
Ask a friend or colleague to check your information product and test the links for you because whilst you may not be able to see a mistake someone else might.
I know I have said this a few times but it is worth repeating. Once your product is out floating through the information highway there is no recalling it! So check, then check, then check again.

If you are looking to build your list then free viral information products are fantastic tools to help you do that but you want to ensure that everything works from the get go.

Learning from your mistakes is a great tool but it’s so much better when there is someone available to let you know what to avoid! So learn from my internet marketing mistakes instead because history doesn’t need to repeat itself on this one.

I wish you much success online and in all areas of your life.

A major article marketing mistake

There are a number of internet marketing mistakes you can make in your internet based business and hopefully by sharing them with you, you can avoid making the same ones.

This mistake only came to light a few days ago because I am following a traffic generation system that includes writing articles. Now I write articles all the time but here is the mistake I made

I was not writing them keyword specific according to the website/blog they were being placed on!

Yes it’s nice to write about internet marketing success but right now my focus is on internet marketing mistakes and internet marketing newbie mistakes so that should be my focus when writing articles and blog posts.

Of course to ensure that works you must know the keywords for your website/blog and if you don’t that’s a mistake in itself. Your main aim should be to get noticed by the search engines as quickly as you possibly can and your keywords will help you get there.

Lesson to learn:

Know your keywords and if you don’t go and figure out what they are now!
If you have a blog that you include your articles on make sure your articles are relevant to the blog and website you are promoting. They should always include your keywords and always have a signature at the end of them

Get Help With Promoting your teleseminars

One of the most difficult parts of running your own teleseminars is building your audience so that you have a regular number of people signing up to take part.

Driving traffic to your lead capture page should be your number one priority once you have set the date and time for your event.

Using your blog, promoting on social network sites like myspace and facebook, sending out articles and press releases. its an ongoing marketing campagin to promote one teleseminar. Of course once you have your list you can also promote your other teleseminars to that list but at the beginning you need to focus on building.

A pastor with a congregation of thousands was asked how he built up such a large following. His answer was “one person at a time” so remember that. Even if you start with only 2 people on the call for your teleseminar at least it’s a start and you are doing something…… you are taking action. That’s so much more than some people!

My first teleseminar consisted of having 10 speakers at an event last October 2007 and I had to promote this event and get people signing to listen to each one. It really helped me figure out what works and what doesn’t.

We are now holding a month long event in May 2008 and you can get an idea of some of the things I have to do to promote it because I have been keeping a record of it here

http://seminarblog.info/event-promotion/

Of course if you can join an event like our teleseminar showcase and have someone else do all that for you then you will find it alot easier.

If you would like to include your teleseminar you can go to

Top 7 Internet Marketing Benefits for Mothers

Top 7 Internet Marketing Benefits for Mothers

by Diane Corriette

When your life revolves around family and raising children it can be nice to have something that you can develop for yourself as a mother even if the only purpose is to remind you that you are a person too and not just “Jake’s mom!”

I believe that the internet provides an awesome opportunity for mothers who want to be able to look after their family but also enjoy the feeling that comes from bringing in an income (no matter how small).

Internet marketing continues to grow in popularity as more mothers build and develop their own internet based business and here are 7 internet marketing benefits that I believe relate particularly well to mothers:

1.    Flexibility: Let’s face it when Jake is sick having to find someone to look after him is a nightmare and most mothers want to be at home if their child is unwell. Running your own internet based business means being at home when your children need you most.

2.    Little commitment: All businesses need a commitment to grow and flourish but with the internet you can start and stop that commitment as family needs dictate. Of course your results will reflect that but it is one of the reasons why moms love working online.

3.    Save money: When your internet business is at a stage where it is bringing in a regular income for you and you are working at home full time you can save money on the commute to work, having  to buy lunch, needing suits and other clothes, childcare costs and other expenses.

4.    Make money: Of course the unlimited potential that the internet offers in terms of how much money you can make is what attracts people in the first place but as a mother even if you didn’t want to focus on huge amounts it still offers you an opportunity to contribute to the household income.

5.    Not needing a product to sell. Many mothers will love the fact that they don’t have to create their own product to be able to benefit from internet marketing. Having products that you can sell on behalf of a supplier for a commission is an easier way to go, although I recommend eventually creating your own product once you are familiar with how everything works.

6.    If you don’t know how to do it you can get help. If you have the income to pay for other people to do work like setting up your website and designing graphics then it will save you a lot of hours trying to do it all yourself. Not being able to do these things is no longer a barrier because there is always a company you can outsource it to.

7.    Getting help from other mothers: Work at home moms or WAHM’s is a huge area in internet marketing and you will be able to find a network of other mothers who work from home and who can support your development.

Internet marketing appeals to anyone who is looking for a flexible working environment with huge opportunities which is why millions of people take a look at money making opportunities on the internet every week.

As a mother the internet offers a particular attraction becomes of the flexibility it offers for fitting in around family commitments and because of the income potential it can provide when your business is a success.

Like anything in life it takes time and dedication to nurture and grow your business into a money making machine but once you do the opportunities are endless.

Five internet marketing mistakes you should avoid making

Five internet marketing mistakes you should avoid making

by Diane Corriette

When you first start out in internet marketing it can become pretty overwhelming pretty fast and before you know it you are spending 10-12 hours online without actually making any money for your efforts.

I started online back in 2005 and what I have found in my relative short internet marketing life is that it doesn’t take much to end up with more debt than income, which is what promoted me to write about it.

Wherever you are in your journey towards running your own successful internet based business I hope writing about my internet marketing mistakes will help you avoid them.

Internet Marketing Mistake #1
Joining way too many email lists and trying to listening to what every expert was telling me to do and becoming overwhelmed. My inbox was full of information but some of it was saying different things and I became confused about which expert to listen to. If you have 10, 20 or more emails coming in from different people consider unsubscribing from the ones you don’t read and focusing in on the ones you do.

Internet Marketing Mistakes #2
Listening to many voices expect one. I took on a mentor very early on and I am glad that I did but I didn’t give his advice long enough. While he was mentoring me I was still listening to all the other experts and sometimes ignoring what my mentor said because of something I read in an email! If I was doing it all again I would tune out all the other voices and only listen to my mentor for the time that I was with him and a few months after that until I had achieved the goals I set myself.

Internet Marketing Mistakes #3
Believing the hype! Yes we all get caught up in product launches and ticking clocks that tell you the price is about to go up, or special fast action bonuses only for the first 100 people. I got caught up in it all time and time again. I ended up with fast action bonuses that I never used anyway and products I never got round to using plus a huge credit card bill.  If I was doing it all again I would only be focused on buying products that directly relate to my business goals and I would stop to think about exactly what value that product will bring to my business.

Internet Marketing Mistake #4
Not building a list. I was running my internet based business for 12 months before I realized that I had no real business because I had no list. It was only when I took part in my first mastermind group and everyone began to talk about group promotions that I realized I had no one to promote to! Building a list would definitely be my first priority (after finding my target market of course).

Internet Marketing Mistake #5
Not staying focused. With no target market, no list to build, no idea about what I really wanted to achieve I moved from one business idea to another. Whatever the latest product was I bought into it in the hope that somehow the product will be the thing that happened me decide what I wanted to do.  If I was doing it all again I would definitely take my time reading the information provided by experts and use that to help me decide on my target market and business vehicle that I would use to make money online.

So those are my 5 biggest internet marketing mistakes and I hope you go out of your way to avoid them because it will save you a lot of frustration and a very large credit card bill!

Limit the number of emails hitting your inbox, find yourself a mentor and only listen to their teaching, don’t get caught up in the hype, build your list once you know your target market and stay focused on what you want to achieve.

Driving the right vehicle to internet marketing success

With the advances in technology there has never been a better time to start a business on the internet that provides you with a  “shop” that never has to close. It will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to anyone that chooses to visit from around the world.

More and more people are recognizing the potential and jumping on the bandwagon without a clear idea of what tool they want to use to actual drive them towards their chosen path.

Not only is the potential for customers huge, but the number of areas you can focus on online is also huge, and this article only provides a small “flavour” of some of the things you can do.

If you don’t choose an area it is very easy to become unfocused and to begin trying different methods with different experts. Before you know it 18-24 months have passed, you have spent a lot of money and you have still not experienced making any money.

Before choosing how you will make money I recommend you read my article ” A strong beginning builds the foundation for a great ending” which will will help you decide WHY you want to make money and then move on to ” Take A Look At Yourself And Your Success” to help you create a vision of success that will help keep you motivated.

First plan, then create your vision, then look at the vehicle that will drive your vision and your plan. Too many people come online and do it the other way around and this article is written from a place of hindsight after making that mistake myself! So you have your plan and your vision let’s look at some of the different ways you can make money online.

Blogging – This has to be my favourite because it is low cost and easy to start. You can set up a blog right now for nothing at somewhere like Blogger or Wordpress. Alternatively, and a much better option, you can host your own blog by buying a domain name and uploading Wordpress. Blogging is not a quick solution to money making and you need to be committed to your subject and building an audience, but if you focus on blogging alone for 12-18 months you will be surprised at the number of people you can have reading your blog. The key is to remember to have a place where they can sign up for your updates so that you build a list while you blog. Also consider varying text blog posts with audio and video (podcast) too.

Affiliate Marketing - This involves you selling the products of a supplier. Its one of the more popular things to do when you start out online because you don’t need your own product, and many affiliates don’t own their own website. When you sell goods on behalf of a supplier they give you a commission based fee. It makes for a great start because they take care of all the customer service and delivery of the product.  The downside of affiliate marketing is the fact that you never earn as much as someone who actually owns the product.

Niche Marketing – Niche marketing is basically marketing your website to a particular group of people in one area. Let’s say you decide to write an information product on how to build a pond; this is called a niche market. You are not talking about knitting, or how to improve your golf swing so you will not want to market to those people. Focusing on one niche and selling to people within that niche is a great way to earn an online income.

Membership Sites – Imagine taking everything you know on how to build a pond, filming yourself as you build and then creating it into videos. Interviewing pond and fish experts and turning them into audios. Then putting all that information into a membership area where people pay to gain access. 500 members paying a monthly fee of $10 to get access to this membership site is a nice chunk of change! Your site could charge a one-off fee, a yearly fee or a monthly fee (or all 3!)

Finally…. Turnkey Businesses - A turnkey business (also called plug-in) is a business that provides everything for you. You will usually be given a product, a website and/or some training/tools in how to market. Some turnkey businesses offer incentives to be paid if you recruit others to take up the opportunity. This is a great way to get started because you have everything you need. It is definitely important to look for a company that provides you with help and support.

There are many home based business opportunities and I encourage you to research and find out which one works best for you before getting yourself involved in one. I also encourage you to focus on one (or two at the most) and enjoy earning a living from them before moving on to running another business.

Consider mixing them up so that your blog has audio and video plus you add premium content so you are running a membership site. Still only one area but you have added three different components to it. This variety will help you and your potential customers to stay motivated!

Take A Look At Yourself And Your Success

Take A Look At Yourself And Your Success

by Diane Corriette
When putting a plan together to work on line, deciding what motivates you and creating a compelling vision that moves you towards it, it can be a useful exercise to dedicate some time defining what success will look like for you. If you haven’t looked at a plan for yourself you might find my article ” A strong beginning builds the foundation for a great ending” useful.

For a few years now success for me has always been about following my heart, making a difference and living with passion. As long as I am doing one or all three of these things I am successful.

What will success look like for you?

If you have been fortunate enough to discover what you are passionate about, your purpose in life, then you are truly blessed. Look at how you can use this to generate passive income. Getting paid doing something we love really puts the fun in work!

Brainstorm ideas! Just write them all down. Start by saying

I am successful when……..

Then make a list and see what shows up, examples are:

I am successful when I am making people laugh
I am successful when I am making $10,000 a week
I am successful when I am doing something that inspires me

You get the picture! Just write them all out and then go onto the next stage.

Once you have completed that exercise take a look at your list and rate them on a scale of 1-10 (with 1 being not important and 10 being extremely important) rate your list and then select the top 7-10 (you can select as many as you like but I am using 7 as my example in this article)

Here’s an example again
I am successful when I am making people laugh (4 out of 10)
I am successful when I am making $10,000 a week (2 out of 10)
I am successful when I am doing something that inspires me (8 out of 10)

If you are unsure about which is the more important one, answer this question

If I can have x but I can’t have y does that matter?

So as an example, if I can have peace but I can’t have money does that matter?

Remember, this is a way of defining your success, so if doing something that inspires is more important then rate it higher than money; if not rate money higher. Go through each one until you have them in a 1-7 order.

Now create one or two sentences of what success means for you using your 7 key words in whatever order you like. So as an example if my key success words were:

1. peace
2. money
3. freedom
4. inspiration
5. making a difference
6. leaving a legacy
7. time for me

My sentence may say something along the lines of:

“Success for me is about having the inspiration, peace, freedom and flexibility to earn money while making a difference and leaving a legacy. My online business will provide me with time for me and my family.”

Having a vision for yourself and your business is so very important because it is this vision that will keep you motivated when you want to give up. People without a real vision become unfocused and begin to try one idea after another. This is actually a very common mistake that people starting in internet marketing make.

Once you have your vision the other thing you need is your business vehicle, the online business that will help you to achieve your vision. I discuss that in another article called “Driving the right vehicle to success” and it’s worth reading if you are still trying to figure out what business you want to use to run your business online.

So take action and create your definition of success because once you know what it is as long as your online business provides you the opportunity to achieve it then you are successful. Even if you do not end up earning a six figure sum or becoming a “guru”, you are still successful in your own eyes. And they are the only eyes that really matter!

A strong beginning builds the foundation for a great ending

Planning for your future is actually one of the most important things you should do before you begin developing your idea for earning passive income online. If you don’t like sitting down and creating business plans at the very least you should have a plan for the next 12-24 months and have a clear vision of how you will achieve that plan.

Deciding on what success looks like for you and how your plan will help you feel successful everyday will help to keep you motivated and I have an article called “Take A Look At Yourself And Your Success” that you can read about determining your version of success, but for now let’s get started by thinking about your future vision.

Ask yourself these questions:

What does the end look like for you?

How amazing will your business and life be 5 years from now or perhaps 10?

If you can’t think that far into the future start with 2 years and then work your way back until today. What will have to happen today, right now, so that you can begin your on-line business? Hopefully the first thing you put was, write a plan!

Take the afternoon off (yes; I am recommending you step away from the computer) and spend time deciding on what you want for yourself and more importantly why. Let’s look at that briefly, why are you doing this? If your answer is to make money then you may want to revisit that. Consider taking on a business because you want to help people meet a need, or you are passionate about a topic that you know will help people live life better/easier. Also consider whether it is the money that you want or what the money will provide.

Your motivation behind wanting to work online and earn money online will be a huge factor to your success, which is why planning is so vitally important. Would you step into a different country and not plan where you are staying? Or what you will see? Of course some of you will say “yeah I would!” But for those of us who are not as free spirited, I recommend you plan what you want for yourself and your life so that you say motivated to achieve it.

Once you decide why you are doing it you now need to consider the effect it will have on the rest of your life and those around you. It is important to consider not only what you want, but the effect it will have on your friends and more importantly your family and loved ones. Will it mean time away from them as you develop your new business? Is your partner ready to stand by you when the money isn’t flowing as well as when it is? Will it mean having to work extra hours after working full time in a job for 30 or 40 hours a week?

You need to know what resistance or challenges you may encounter because the impact on you is highly diminished if you know there is a possibility of this issue occurring. See it as risk analysis. All organisations, especially large ones, will plan out what “may happen” when they launch a new product or take on a new venture.
Playing devil’s advocate is an important part of this process. It is not about being negative or thinking “this just won’t work”. It is about remaining proactive by asking “what choices will I need to make if this does not work?” “Who can I turn to in times of need?”

After completing your plan sit down and write out a few contingencies, a few just in case scenarios. Be prepared! Stephen Covey says “begin with the end in mind.”

Once you have an idea of what you want and why, and you have written it all down, create a picture in your minds eye of what your business will look like.

Hear the sounds. Will you be opening a bottle of bubbly because you’ve had your most successful week yet? Or the scream of your loved ones as you tell them you are going on holiday for the first time in years?

What feelings will you feel? Will you feel the satisfaction of giving to your community or to charity because you have the money to do that? Will you feel the determination to do what needs to be done to achieve?
What tastes will you experience? The taste of sea air as you arrive at your holiday destination? The taste of your favorite food from your favorite restaurant, which you are sharing with 15 of your friends! What smells will you smell? The smell of floor polish as you step into your new dream home for the first time that has just been cleaned ready for your arrival.

Make it real, experience everything. Feel the excitement deep within you, and then call on this whenever you need to keep going. Spend time creating a plan for yourself that moves you into action every time you think about it. Create pictures in your mind about the things you will have and do.
I recommend you also spend some time thinking about the kind of person you will become too. Who will you be as a result of this extra income? Will you be generous, compassionate, loving? Well guess what, you don’t need passive income to be those things, you can do them right now!

Who you are “being” in life will determine whether your business is a true success. Will you be loyal, courageous and self-expressed in your desire to reach your goals or will you be pig-headed, difficult, manipulative and controlling? Guess which one will get you further and be more fun!

Using social networks to build your online network

We all have offline social networks, friends from our association, church or group, business networks that include suppliers, customers and other businesses, and now thanks to the power of web 2.0 we are building virtual business networks. People are coming together from around the world to learn, connect to each other and share their personal and professional life. Friendships and networks are being made between a person in the USA and India, someone in the UK and Australia. There are no longer any barriers to making international connections and talk to people around the world.
I refer to this type of online connection as a virtual business network. It is particularly important for you to network in this way if you run an internet based business because you will be at home, working alone and will need a place to go when challenges hit, or just to let off some steam. Below are seven great ways to build your virtual business network to ensure you and the person/people you interact with gain the most benefit:

Remember Its not about numbers. If you think all you need to do is find a social network with a large number of people you may be missing out on some great opportunities to connect inside smaller groups and build more solid relationships.

Large sites are great if you just want to spread your business link around to get people to visit your website but you really should aim for more than this. First decide what you want to get out of a network and what you can provide in terms of skills and expertise. Once you do that whether that social network has 2 members or 2,000 you will always gain maximum benefit from taking part.

Leverage the skills. What skills will you have that you bring to a group and can share with them? Let them know your expertise and how you can help. Discover what skills other people have and how you can use them to build your business. Most people in a network group are happy to share what they know so make the most of it and also be willing to share what you know.

Give before you take. It is important that you don’t spend all of your time taking and none of your time giving. Give first, share what you know, invite people to ask you questions, volunteer information, tell people about a great resource you found. Give, give and give some more because givers gain!

Provide value before you sell
. When you write your blogs or messages for people to read don’t just leave a quick few words with a link to your products/site. Provide value you in your message. If you are commenting on what someone has written let them know why you enjoyed reading it, or whether you agree/disagree and then tell them - if you are interested in that, you may also be interested in this and let them know what you offer.

Establish yourself in a few rather than spread yourself in many.
There are more and more online networks available for people to make use of and it is really easy to just keep joining one after another every time you are invited. It’s great to get yourself out on the internet but it’s also a good plan to establish yourself in at least 2 or 3 groups so that people recognize you. What you are looking to do here is build your reputation within the community and help them to get to know, like and trust you.

Take part and be active
. If your business network facility allows you to start groups then start one and invite other members to join, don’t just sit back and wait for them to join. If you are able to upload videos find a few on Google that the community may enjoy watching and include them. If the site has a blog include at least two a week that provide value, tips, techniques or a how to type post that will help people do something they may be unable to do. Some of the best blogs will start a discussion or debate so ask a question, or ask for comments, suggestions or ideas to get everyone talking.

Make a commitment and be willing to work at it.
Raising your online visibility takes time to achieve and will need regular contributions and a commitment to being around so that regular members get to know you and new members want to connect with you. You will soon find yourself connecting to more and more people and building your virtual social network. As you meet the same members in other networks you will have an instant connection with them and that will help you where ever you are on the internet.

Building a virtual business network provides you with an opportunity to build international friendships as well as profitable business partnerships and joint venture opportunities. You cannot survive online without connecting to other people in the same industry/community and as with all relationship building it takes time but is very rewarding.

I have connected with people from the USA and when they visit the UK I meet up and show them round! So take your time, show your expertise and provide value, before you know it people will seek you out and want to connect with you.
